Plastic recovered from Kelavarapalli Lake

The waste that had nowhere else to go.

127 grams of mixed plastic waste was collected from the shoreline and floating debris of Kelavarapalli Lake, Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu. This reservoir sits approximately 18 km from the TVS Motor Company Hosur plant. Without this programme, the waste would have been incinerated or landfilled. It is not recyclable through conventional means.

Transported to Without®'s Pune facility, sorted and washed

Contaminants out. Polymer fractions separated.

The batch was transported approximately 800 km from Hosur to Without®'s materials recovery facility in Pune, where it was washed, dried, and sorted using near-infrared optical sorting. Organic matter, metals, and non-target polymers are separated. 118g from this batch passed the quality gates for downstream processing.

VerdiCycle™ at 120°C — not 500°C

Chemo-mechanical extraction. Water-based. Patented.

The waste enters the VerdiCycle reactor in Pune. Unlike pyrolysis (which operates above 500°C, consumes high energy, and produces degraded output), we use mild conditions and water-based chemistry. Polymers are separated intact. No incineration. No toxic off-gassing. No downcycling.

Extruded into VerdiFLX B50A pellets

Engineering grade. Drop-in for virgin PP.

Recovered polymers from this batch are compounded with virgin PP at a 50:50 ratio to produce VerdiFLX B50A — the automotive injection moulding grade. The 109g of polymer extracted in Stop 04 is blended into the larger production run; 50% of each 118g part's mass (59g) is traceable back to this specific Kelavarapalli batch. VerdiFLX B50A matches virgin PP on stiffness and beats it on toughness: 33 kJ/m² Charpy impact at 23°C, up to 10x unfilled virgin PP.

Back to the same city the waste came from.

Pellets arrive at the approved Tier 1 moulding partner near Hosur. This batch was directed to supplier TPL-HSR-04, already integrated into the Jupiter 125 non-performance parts supply chain. Zero tooling changes — pellets run on existing injection moulding machines.

Injection moulded into a Jupiter 125 under-seat storage liner

Drop-in for the existing part. No retooling.

The pellets were injection moulded using TVS Motor Company's existing die for the Jupiter 125 under-seat storage liner — the inner tray that sits inside the segment-leading 33-litre storage compartment. The component passed all dimensional, surface finish, and impact tests — indistinguishable from the virgin-PP version. Except for what went into making it.

From lake to wheel. 47 days. One closed loop.

The Jupiter 125 rolled out of the Hosur plant on 2 March 2026, fitted with an under-seat storage liner made from plastic recovered from the lake approximately 18 km away. It's now on dealer floors across South India. When this vehicle reaches end-of-life, the same component can be recovered and recycled again — up to 10 more times.
